but President Obama has already made clear he like vans shoes

Senators spent the weekend trying to craft a new proposal that they originally claimed could be ready as early as Sunday. But Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid reported late in the day that there was significant distance between the two cheap vans shoes sides Vans Shoes 2013 Online, following a tense afternoon during which Vice President Biden was brought in to referee. Talks now push on into Monday -- but President Obama has vans shoes already made clear he will press Reid to call a vote on a separate White House plan if nothing is produced by then. The stumbling block Sunday initially appeared to be a provision in the Republican proposal that would change the way Social Security benefits are calculated -- effectively reducing benefits over time. But while that drew the ire of Democrats, some Republicans indicated they were willing to drop the provision. Instead, they voiced serious concern about a Democratic push to use new tax revenue for new spending. “The biggest obstacle we face is that President Obama wearing hello kitty vans and Majority Leader Reid continue to insist on new taxes that will be used to fund more new spending, not for meaningful deficit reduction," said Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Pink Hello Kitty Vans Authentic Canvas Shoes Sale Senate Budget Committee. Reid said late Sunday afternoon the Social Security provision -- knows as chained CPI -- never should have been added to what would now be a basic, final-hour deal that would include taxes increases for top earners and perhaps an extension of unemployment insurance and a promise to negotiate later on spending cuts. Reid said later that he was gratified that Republicans had taken the provision off the table but added "there's still significant distance between the two sides." Reid mentioned in passing that he had a new Black Vans Hello Kitty Red Bowknot Canvas Shoes proposal, but a Reid staffer clarified afterward that Democrats have yet to make a formal counter offer.

He said: "As soon as the first forensics began, we were able to open the vehicle, and it was at that moment we discovered the little girl, around four years old, that nobody had seen, because she hadn't moved, completely in shock and completely frozen." The BMW was discovered surrounded by spent bullet cartridges on Wednesday afternoon in a car park on the outskirts of a forest near Lake Annecy, a picturesque region popular with tourists. Mr Maillaud said 15 cartridges were found around the car and a "very large number" of shots had been fired. French officials said the vehicle was owned by a UK national who was staying at a nearby campsite, believed to be Le Solitaire du Lac in the Saint-Jorioz area. For 30 minutes they rumbled through yards

"We wanted to build a sanctuary," Watkinson said Friday. "We found them in a bad situation. People have them and play with them for five years and then someone has to come and rescue them. That's what cheap christian louboutin we tried to do. We failed." On Thursday, after three straight days of stifling 110-degree days, the chimps burst through one door of their outdoor pen, opened a secondary door with two dead bolt latches, and escaped. For 30 minutes they rumbled through yards and climbed into and out of at least one unoccupied vehicle. The male, Buddy, dented fenders and jumped atop a police car before veering toward a gathering crowd of people. A Las Vegas police officer killed him with three shotgun blasts. Buddy and the female, named C.J., had become unmanageable for their former owner, who signed part ownership of the animals over to a nonprofit that De Rosa heads, called the Cortland Brandenberg Foundation. The couple spent $100,000 of Watkinson's winnings from the 2006 World Series of Poker on a sturdy double-fenced enclosure of 800 square feet, about the size of two big-rig trailers, this in the backyard of a home in a horsey neighborhood in unincorporated Clark County. Building codes in the area and Nevada state law allow people to keep exotic animals as pets. Officer Marcus Martin, a Las Vegas police spokesman, said the veteran officer who shot Buddy thought he was the last defense between the rampaging animal and people gathering to watch. Martin recalled a 2009 attack on a woman who was blinded and disfigured by a chimp at a friend's home in Stamford, Conn. A U.S. student also suffered critical injuries including head wounds and the loss of a testicle and fingers when he was attacked by two adult chimpanzees after he entered their enclosure last month at a primate sanctuary in South Africa.

the top free agent available online shopping

A person with knowledge of the decision said Williams told the team he was accepting its five-year contract worth $98 million. Williams, the top free agent available, chose to stay with the Nets over signing with his hometown team, the Dallas Mavericks. It's a huge triumph for the Nets as they prepare to move into the new Barclays Center to start the 2012-13 season. They gave up an enormous package to get Williams in a surprising February 2011 trade, sending promising forward Derrick Favors, point guard Devin Harris, two first-round draft picks, and cash to the Utah Jazz. But it was worth it for the Nets, who needed a franchise player with them to build buzz for their move to New York. Williams wanted to make a quick decision before he reports to training camp in Las Vegas with the U.S. men's basketball team Thursday. He met with both teams Monday, the day after free agency opened, and made his Twitter posting about 7 p.m. The person confirmed the agreement on condition of anonymity because contracts can't be signed until July 11. Williams' decision comes a day after Brooklyn agreed to a deal with Atlanta for all-star guard Joe Johnson, and amid reports the club was still hoping to make a deal with Orlando for Dwight Howard. Thunder seal Brooks deal. Scott Brooks always believed he would be back as the coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, even as his previous contract was surprisingly allowed to expire following the NBA Finals. There were rumors that he would be replaced by 11-time NBA champion Phil Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy - which general manager Sam Presti discarded as "rubbish" - but Brooks remained confident. "I knew it would work out," Brooks said at a news conference to formally announce the deal he signed Monday. Brooks reportedly now has a four-year deal worth more than $4 million annually, but the team isn't releasing the terms.

Boehner sets up another debt limit fight herve leger

And now, House Speaker John Boehner (R, Ohio) is drawing a new line best mens shoes in the sand, making another showdown over the debt almost inevitable. Boehner issued the warning Tuesday, declaring, "We shouldn't dread the debt limit. (As a) matter of fact, I think we should welcome it." Boehner says Republicans won't allow another increase in the nation's debt limit unless it's offset by spending cuts, and no tax increases. "Allowing America to default on its debt would be irresponsible," he said. The nation's debt has nearly tripled in the past decade, and now stands at $15.6 trillion. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has predicted the U.S. will hit its current borrowing limit of $16.4 trillion by the end of the year. Congress will have to raise that limit to avoid a damaging default on the nation's debt payments. On the Blue Herve Leger Square Neck Bandage Dress Sale campaign trail, Mitt Romney echoed Boehner's hard line, saying, "Washington has been spending too much money, and our new president made things worse." This is the second time Republicans are demanding deep cuts in exchange for their vote to raise the debt limit. Last summer, a "grand bargain" between Speaker Boehner and the president to cut trillions from the debt fell apart. After weeks of bitter fighting, the two parties passed a bill to prevent default, but still triggered a downgrade of U.S. credit. Democrats argue Boehner's latest comments don't bode well for compromise this time. "The American people have had enough of this brinkmanship. They want us to get things done," says Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, Nev.) Virginia's Mark Warner, a Democrat, is part of a bipartisan group that's trying to build support from both sides for a mix of entitlement reforms, spending cuts, and new revenue from taxes. "I spend a lot of time talking with my colleagues who know in their gut we've gotta do this," Warner says. Former President Clinton spoke at the same economic forum as Boehner Tuesday and said he's optimistic that, after the November elections, the two sides will have more incentives to compromise on the debt limit lid.

it made massive gains in the Toms shoes coupon codes

Nine days of negotiations among Greece's bickering parties failed after May 6 inconclusive elections left no party with enough votes for a majority in parliament. The lack of a toms shoes on sale coupon codes deal to share power meant the only option open was to head back to the ballot box. The caretaker government will have no mandate to take www.google.com any internationally binding commitments, with emergencies to be handled in consultation with party leaders, Communist Party head Aleka Papariga said. "It will be a strictly caretaker government, which must Toms shoes coupon codes not take any action at the EU or NATO that will be binding for the Greek people," Papariga said after another meeting with other party heads, convened by President Karolos Papoulias to find agreement on who will lead the temporary government. Reeling from two years of a vicious financial crisis that has Toms shoes coupon codes seen it take billions of euros in international rescue loans in return for imposing strict austerity measures aimed at reforming its problematic economy, Greece has been thrown into further turmoil by the May 6 elections. Voters furious with the handling of the country's severe financial crisis deserted the two formerly dominant parties — conservative New Democracy and socialist PASOK — turning instead to a myriad of smaller parties. Those that pushed for Greece to pull out of its international bailout agreements saw the most gains. The inability to form a government and the prospect of another inconclusive general election have increased concern over Greece's ability to cope with its finances and threaten the country's continued participation in Europe's joint currency. The instability comes at a critical time, with Greece expected to take yet more austerity measures next month in order to meet the targets laid out in its bailout deal with other eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund "There is no other solution. It is very difficult for Toms shoes coupon codes parties with so many differences to form a government," Athens resident Katerina Papadaki said about the new elections. But it would still not gain enough for a parliamentary majority, meaning more negotiations for a power-sharing government would likely ensue. Hundreds have been killed since the monitors arrived in Syria three weeks ago

The U.N.-backed peace plan, meant to end the bloodshed of a Toms shoes, 2012 new men and women toms shoes sale 14-month antigovernment uprising, remains the only chance to stabilize the toms shoes sale country, Annan said. "If it fails … and it were to lead into a civil war, it will not affect only Syria, it will have an impact on the whole region," he said at a news conference in Geneva after his briefing. "This is why we should all be so concerned for the Syrians, for Syria, and for a region." Hundreds have been killed since the monitors arrived in Syria three weeks ago. Opposition members and world leaders have criticized the regime of President Bashar Assad for failing to observe the cease-fire by continuing to crack down on dissent. Annan said the monitors, who now number about 50, have had a calming effect but that cease-fire violations continue, including recent bombings that he said were worrying. He appealed once again for the killing to stop. The entire 300-member monitoring team is expected to be in Toms shoes, 2012 new men and women toms shoes sale Syria by the end of the month. Violence continued Tuesday, with an activist group reporting that at least 23 people were killed across the country, many of them in Idlib, Homs and Dara. Shelling continued in Idlib and Homs, and activists said security forces opened fire, sometimes randomly, in several cities. Meanwhile, even as anti-Assad activists and rebels continue to meet with U.N. monitors as they move across the country, the same members of the Syrian opposition have become impatient with what they see as an ineffective mission that has done little to stem the government crackdown. One activist in Duma, , a suburb of Damascus, the capital, said that Syrians initially had little hope for the U.N. monitoring mission, given the failure of the Arab League mission sent months ago. "But these observers are even worse than the Toms shoes, 2012 new men and women toms shoes sale Arab League," said the activist, who goes by the alias Omar Hamza. "They visit a town or an area, [and] shortly after it is stormed, people are detained, and the army opens fire. People started praying that the observers don't visit their area." The International Committee of the Red Cross, which has been operating in Syria since March, said Tuesday that the conflict is already turning into a guerrilla war in certain parts of the country. The comments by Red Cross President Jakob Kellenberger came the same day that the organization appealed for more than $25 million in donations to help tens of thousands of Syrians. "The type of the violence has changed a little bit," he said. "At least in recent weeks, you have no longer these big battles like one had in Homs in the second half of February. You have more Toms shoes, 2012 new men and women toms shoes sale guerrilla attacks and bomb attacks."

A confrontation between Greece and its European lenders could come as soon as next month

But European leaders showed little inclination to back down from their austerity demands, setting the stage for a clash over Greece’s future that could quickly spread beyond the country’s borders. Other vulnerable nations such as Spain and Italy could be affected by a renewed sense that euro-zone membership isn’t necessarily permanent. And the United States’ fragile economic recovery also could face head winds coming over the Atlantic, even as new voices such as French President-elect Francois Hollande give fresh strength to arguments that Europe should focus more on growth and less on austerity. A confrontation between Greece and its European lenders could come as soon as next month. Greece had agreed to implement many tough austerity measures, such as cutting health-care spending by June 30, and to find an additional $19 billion in savings for next year. The already difficult prospect of meeting that deadline now appears impossible as the country struggles to find new political leadership after the divisive weekend vote that punished two long-dominant parties and bolstered those on the far left and far right. With the pro-business New Democracy party failing to form a coalition Monday, the second- and third-place parties will each be given a chance to form a coalition. If they do not succeed, Greece’s president will try to broker one. Most politicians and political analysts here expect those efforts to fail, forcing new elections in June and allowing little work on the country’s pressing economic problems. Meanwhile, Greece’s coffers continue to empty, and with failure to act on required austerity measures likely to block a scheduled $39 billion bailout installment in June, it will probably be bankrupt soon after. If Greece runs out of euros, it would be forced to start printing drachmas, which economists say would quickly devalue against the stronger common currency. Uncertainty ahead Europe’s top leaders gave no indication Monday that they would allow Greece any wiggle room, and one, Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, warned of the possibility of Greece exiting the euro zone. In Germany, where taxpayers bear the biggest burden of paying for the bailout, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Monday that she would hold Greece to its previous agreements. “Obviously, it is of utmost importance that the programs we have agreed on with Greece are continued,” she told reporters in Berlin. “The process is a difficult one, but despite that, it should go on.”

For a Communist Party official who is supposed to earn a modest salary

Media attention has spiraled from Bo Xilai -- the former party chief of Chongqing widely believed in line for a national party leadership role before his March dismissal -- to his family members after his wife, Gu Kailai, was detained on suspicion of having murdered British businessman Neil Heywood in November. For a Communist Party official who is supposed to earn a modest salary, there are reports he and immediate relatives are worth tens of millions of dollars through business dealings and powerful political connections. Professor Ding Xueliang of Hong Kong's University of Science and Technology, who knows some of Bo Xilai's family members, said Bo's former position could have given him unique flexibility to skirt China's tight capital control rules. "He was not an ordinary member of the Politburo. He was one of the earliest PRC officials who had established wide overseas protection," Ding said. "That gave him enormous advantage to accumulate wealth. Once you've established overseas companies outside of China, it's very easy to shift money around." Bo gained national prominence when he moved in to Chongqing in 2007 and began his "strike black" crackdown on corruption and gangster activities. The campaign implicated millionaires, local officials, police officers and gangsters involved in bribery, prostitution, gambling, drugs and guns. Since his dismissal, allegations have come to light that suggest the crackdown was as ruthless as the criminals targeted. "A Chongqing business man told me once 'This is not a legitimate government that hates the mafia. This local government acts like a big mafia boss that hates the small mafia'," Ding said.

his young daughter was hospitalized for the second time

Rubio is the latest in a series of supporters to appear under the VP spotlight around an event or girls toms series of events with Romney.

Joint appearances with Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey and Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and others have sparked similar chatter.

But the focus on Rubio has always been sharper, given his youth, popularity among many that associate with the tea party movement, battleground state roots and his place in the Hispanic community --- a crucial voting bloc in which Romney trails President Barack Obama badly in most polls.

The Pennsylvania appearances come a day ahead of the first primaries -- Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island -- Romney will take part in without a major challenger.

Rick Santorum, a former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, withdrew from the GOP field ahead of his home state's vote, as fund-raising slowed, the math appeared stacked against him, and his young daughter was hospitalized for the second time since he began campaigning.

The former Massachusetts governor will watch the results from New Hampshire, where he scored the calculus 101 toms vegan womens classic shoes first political victory of his campaign for the White House.

A campaign aide told CNN that the Granite State is "where the campaign kicked off, and we see this Tuesday as when the general will kick off -- so are going back to where it all started."
Romney will campaign Monday in Pennsylvania with another senator and possible vice presidential pick, Marco Rubio of Florida.

Rubio was elected in 2010 aided by a wave of tea party support and a platform of fiscal conservatism. Speculation about his future has followed the freshman representative since then, something the impending release of his memoir has done little to temper.

Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, has become one of Romney's most ardent backers of late, but sought to deflect some of the attention over the weekend.

Rubio offered up former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as a possible No. 2 on the GOP ticket, telling CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday that he would make a "fantastic vice president."

The testy relationship between the two was first exposed

The former Massachusetts governor showed off his ebullient mood by jogging, rather than walking, the parade route on that late-summer afternoon, crisscrossing the street to shake hands and introduce himself to the voters who would cast their ballots in the first-in-the-nation primary four months later.

As his staff and members of the Excellent cheap toms shoes for women, 50% off, Toms shoes women on hot sale at www.tomsshoeswomen.com, Buy your own toms shoes with free shipping. media struggled to keep up, Romney spotted a small crowd of people who had gathered under the cool shade of a tree just off the parade route.

Without hesitation, the candidate bounded past a cadre of visibly concerned Secret Service agents who had formed a loose circle around Barack Obama and approached the junior senator from Illinois, who was struggling to turn the tremendous enthusiasm behind his campaign into movement in the polls against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

With a burst of his now familiar staccato laugh, Romney shook Obama's hand as television cameramen jostled to get the shot.

The two candidates wished each other an amiable "good luck" with their respective campaigns and headed their separate ways.

As far as either side remembers, the only other time that the current president and the presumptive GOP nominee met face to face was when they each spoke at the 2004 Gridiron Club Dinner in Washington, D.C.

The fact that the two men competing for the nation's highest office have spent almost no time in each other's presence stands in contrast to the dynamic that existed four years ago. Then, Obama and Republican nominee John McCain squared off in the general election after having worked alongside each other in the Senate for three-and-a-half years.

The testy relationship between the two was first exposed in an open letter that the Arizona senator sent to his freshman colleague in February 2006; in it, McCain accused Obama of reneging on a private promise to push through lobbying reform legislation under bipartisan parameters.

"I understand how important the opportunity to lead your party's effort to exploit this issue must seem to a freshman Senator, and I hold no hard feelings over your earlier disingenuousness," McCain wrote in the letter that oozed with biting sarcasm and foreshadowed the personal animus that boiled over during their 2008 battle. "Again, I have been around long enough to appreciate that in politics the public interest isn't always a priority for every one of us. Good luck to you, Senator."

As Obama and Romney gear up for a general election campaign that is expected to be particularly negative, neither politician appears to have any strong feelings about his opponent on a human level, even though their personalities and perspectives could scarcely be more diametrically opposed.

The extent to which their backgrounds differ is perhaps best exemplified by their adolescent years.

The son of a wealthy auto executive and governor who still recalls fondly the day in high school when he beat out "another fella" for his wife-to-be's affections, Romney was once photographed in 1966 decrying Vietnam War protesters at Stanford University -- not far from the Haight-Ashbury district where many of his contemporaries were tuning in to the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane.

Obama, by contrast, has admitted to using drugs during his teenage years while struggling to "find himself" in a single-parent, nomadic existence that had almost nothing in common with the placid, strait-laced suburban life that Romney inhabited at the same point in his life.

The president has at times veered close to revealing a mild disregard for Romney -- one akin to the snide contempt many members of his campaign team have been accused of harboring for their likely opponent.

Obama recently took some heat after drawing attention to Romney's use of the outdated word "marvelous" (a label Romney applied to Paul Ryan's proposed budget) and noted during a speech Wednesday in Ohio that he himself "wasn't born with a silver spoon" in his mouth.

But rather than suggesting a personal hostility, these comments have come across as political tactics designed to bolster the impression that Romney sometimes has difficulty in relating to everyday people.

For his part, the GOP's likely standard-bearer has for months tempered his criticism of the president by adding that Obama is a "nice guy" -- even when Romney is speaking to highly partisan crowds replete with people who largely believe otherwise.

According to aides who have spent significant time with Romney, the former Massachusetts governor has not revealed in private any disrespect or personal enmity for the man whose job he seeks, even though he believes emphatically that Obama is an ineffective leader who is in over his head.

But with more than six months of campaigning to go, there is plenty of time for political circumstances to take their toll on the personal dynamic between the two men, which for the time being remains undeveloped.

The candidates' paths are unlikely to cross before Oct. 3 in Denver, when they are slated to meet for just the third time in their lives at the first of three scheduled general election debates.

everyone knew that once the extension reached the Senate

The House approved what appeared to be the 10th extension of transportation funding since the last long-term bill expired more than two years ago. As a carrot for its most toms shoes women, 50% off, buy toms shoes for women online conservative members, the extension included non-transportation measures they support.

But everyone knew that once the extension reached the Senate, it would be stripped bare and replaced with a two-year transportation bill the Senate approved earlier this year. That bill would land in the lap of a conference committee.

“The House extension is a shell bill, a Kabuki dance,” one senior House staff member said. “They want to get this [in a conference committee] behind closed doors so they can work it, but what’s making the House conservatives crazy is that none of what they wanted in a transportation bill is in the Senate bill, and it obviously isn’t in the House extension, and in conference they’re required to stay within the bounds of the bills each side has passed.”

One of the non-transportation measures appended to the House extension was approval of the controversial Keystone oil pipeline. The White House has threatened a veto if a bill emerges from the conference committee with that provision intact.

Boehner’s motivation for pushing an extension that would revive the Senate bill that never reached the House floor?

“He just wants to get a bill out of here so people stop saying they’re blocking a jobs bill,” said the staff member, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the action.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said exactly that on Wednesday, accusing House Republicans of engaging in “gotcha politics.”

“They don’t want to hand the president a jobs bill before the election,” LaHood said, repeating that a transportation bill would put the construction industry back to work. “America’s one big pothole now. People ask, how come they’re not filling these potholes? It’s because Congress hasn’t taken any action. These people are going to have to go home and face the voters. They talk about creating jobs, but they’d done little or nothing about it.”

In speaking at a gathering hosted by Politico, LaHood, a former Republican member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, reiterated that transportation funding has historically bridged the partisan divide in Congress.

That those days of House bipartisanship are over was demonstrated again Wednesday in the bickering that preceded the vote. But in the end, the extension that wasn’t really an extension passed by a 293 to 127 vote with bipartisan support.

“The purpose of this extension is that we can hopefully bring about resolution and conference legislation to complete our transportation bill,” said John L. Mica (R-Fla.), chairman of the House committee.

The Democrats who voted for the bill agreed.

“It appears that the House has finally found the path out of dysfunction junction,” Rep. Peter A. DeFazio (D-Ore.) said. “We’ve been there too long. I’m anxious to get to conference. I’m anxious to get it done. I think we should get it done before May so states can capture the full construction season.

he would face a maximum prison sentence of 21 years

After rejecting the court's authority, Anders Behring Breivik said Monday that he admits to the bombing in Oslo and a shooting massacre on Utoya island outside the capital on July 22.

Breivik told the court: "I admit to the acts, but not criminal guilt."

Breivik, dressed in a dark suit, smiled as cheap herve leger a guard removed his handcuffs in the crowded court room. The 33-year-old then flashed a closed-fist salute, before shaking hands with prosecutors and court officials.

"I don't recognize Norwegian courts because you get your mandate from the Norwegian political parties who support multiculturalism," Breivik said in his first comments to the court.

Breivik also said he doesn't recognize the authority of Judge Wenche Elisabeth Arntzen, because he said she is friends with the sister of former Norwegian Prime Minister and Labor Party leader Gro Harlem Brundtland.

The anti-Muslim militant described himself as a writer, currently working from prison, when asked by the judge for his employment status.

After opening statements Monday, Breivik is set to testify for five days, explaining why he set off a bomb in downtown Oslo, killing eight, and then shot to death 69 people, mostly teenagers, at a Labor Party youth camp on Utoya island, outside the Norwegian capital.

Breivik has admitted to the attacks, claiming they were necessary to protect Norway from being taken over by Muslims, but has rejected criminal guilt. He claims he targeted the government headquarters in Oslo and the youth camp to strike against the left-leaning political forces he blames for allowing immigration in Norway.

Breivik remained stone-faced and motionless as prosecutor Inga Bejer Engh read his indictment on terror and premeditated murder charges, including descriptions of how each victim died.

The key issue to be resolved during the 10-week trial is the state of Breivik's mental health, which will decide whether he is sent to prison or to psychiatric care.

If deemed mentally competent, he would face a maximum prison sentence of 21 years or an alternate custody arrangement under which the sentence is prolonged for as long as an inmate is deemed a danger to society.

Police sealed off the streets around the court building, where journalists, survivors and relatives of victims watched the proceedings in a 200-seat courtroom built specifically for the trial.
http://www.fashiontrendspos.com/handbags-celine-handbags-c-68_213.html
Thick glass partitions were put up to separate the defendant from victims and their families, many of whom are worried that Breivik will use the trial to promote his extremist political ideology. In a manifesto he published online before the attacks, Breivik wrote that "patriotic resistance fighters" should use trials "as a platform to further our cause."

Norway's NRK television will broadcast parts of the trial, but it is not allowed to show Breivik's testimony.

Breivik told investigators he is a resistance fighter in a far-right militant group modeled on the Knights Templar medieval crusaders, but police have found no trace of the organization and say he acted alone.

Anxious to prove he is not insane, he has called right-wing extremists and radical Islamists to testify during the trial, to show that there are others who share his view of clashing civilizations.

Breivik surrendered to police 1 hour and 20 minutes after he arrived on Utoya. The police response was slowed by a series of mishaps, including the lack of an operating police helicopter and the breakdown of an overloaded boat carrying a commando team to the fashiontrendspos island.

We are trying to protect the revolution

Smaller Islamist groups joined the Brothers on Tahrir, all venting their anger at the felool, or remnants of former President Hosni Mubarak's regime, who many say are a threat to cheap for shop Egypt's revolution. The Brotherhood had kept its supporters off the streets since winning parliamentary elections at the end of last year. But the entrance of Omar Suleiman, a long-time confidant and spy-chief of the deposed Mubarak, into the race and legal maneuvers to have some of the Islamists' own candidates disqualified brought them out today.

Events of the past few weeks have turned Egyptian conventional wisdom on its head. A month ago, many Egyptians thought the Muslim Brotherhood would cut a private deal with the ruling Supreme Council for the Armed Forces (SCAF) by promising it wouldn't seek the presidency or eliminate the military's privileged position in exchange for latitude in parliament.

But since, the body parliament formed to write Egypt's new constitution was dissolved by court order and the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, which has almost 50 percent of the seats in parliament, has chafed at the fact that the government is still controlled by SCAF. Worried that its chances of writing a new constitution that would weaken the presidency (as things stand now, the president reigns supreme) are slipping away, the group put forward its senior strategist Khairat al-Shater as a possible candidate.

Think you know the Middle East? Take our geography quiz.

Mr. Shater has faced a legal challenge to his candidacy, however, since he served jail time for his political activities under Mubarak. Another Islamist presidential hopeful, salafi Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, is also facing a legal challenge to his candidacy. Meanwhile Mr. Suleiman, to many Egyptians the ne plus ultra of felool, has stepped into the fray.

That's the background that led to the sea of green (the Brotherhood's color) on Tahrir today, where people are playing drums and marching through the square. “We don’t want the regime, and we don’t want Omar Suleiman,” says Mohammad Abayt, as he directs protesters into the square amid chants of “Down, down with military rule!”]

“We are trying to protect the revolution because it’s been stolen from us,” says Islam Salah with a picture of Abu Ismail hung with a white ribbon around his neck

A light sheen and minimal debris were visible as the vessel sunk

Coast Guard cutter unleashed cannon fire on the abandoned 164-foot Ryou-Un Maru on Thursday, ending a cheap toms journey that began when last year's tsunami dislodged it and set it adrift across the Pacific Ocean.

It sank into waters more than 6,000 feet deep in the Gulf of Alaska, about 180 miles west of the southeast Alaska coast, the Coast Guard said.

The crew pummeled the ghost ship with high explosive ammunition, and the Ryou-Un Maru soon burst into flames, took on water and began listing, officials said.

A huge column of smoke could be seen over the gulf as a Coast Guard C-130 cargo plane, sent to observe the sinking, dropped a buoy to monitor for any possible pollution from the sunken ship.

The Coast Guard warned mariners to stay away, and aviation authorities did the same for pilots.

In about four hours, the ship vanished into the water, said Chief Petty Officer Kip Wadlow in Juneau.

Officials decided to sink the ship rather than risk the chance of it running aground or endangering other vessels in the busy shipping lanes between North America and Asia.

The ship had no lights or communications system, and its tank was able to carry more than 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel. Officials, however, didn't know how much fuel, if any, was aboard.

"It's less risky than it would be running into shore or running into (maritime) traffic," Coast Guard spokesman Paul Webb said.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency studied the problem and decided it is safer to sink the ship and let the fuel evaporate in the fashion trends sale open water.

A light sheen and minimal debris were visible as the vessel sunk, but the sheen is expected to quickly dissipate, the Coast Guard said in a news release.

The ship was at Hokkaido, Japan, and destined for scrapping when a magnitude-9.0 earthquake that struck the country in March 2011 triggered a tsunami.

The waves dislodged the vessel and set it adrift. In total, about 5 million tons of debris was swept out to sea.

The boat did not have any cargo aboard, Webb said. He said he didn't know who owned the Ryou-Un Maru, which had been traveling about 1 mph in recent days.

As the Coast Guard was readying to fire on the vessel, a Canadian fishing vessel, the 62-foot Bernice C, claimed salvage rights over the ghost ship in international waters.

Plans to sink it were halted so the Canadian crew could have a chance to take the stricken ship. A Canadian official with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that the Bernice C was unable to tow it.

That delay, in part, prompted the cargo plane to return to Kodiak, Alaska, before the ship sank because the plane burned up fuel while circling the area monitoring the situation.

The Canadian boat left, and once it was about 6 miles from the Japanese vessel, the Coast Guard began to fire, first with 25 mm shells, then a few hours later with ammunition twice that size.

In the year since the tsunami, the debris from Japan has washed up on shores across the Pacific.

In January, a half dozen large buoys suspected to be from Japanese oyster farms appeared at the top of Alaska's panhandle and may be among the first debris from the tsunami.

State health and environmental officials have said there's little need to be worried that debris landing on Alaska shores will be contaminated by radiation.

The earthquake triggered the toms shoes on sale world's worst nuclear crisis since the Chernobyl accident in 1986.

State officials have been working with federal counterparts to gauge the danger of debris including material affected by a damaged nuclear power plant, to see if Alaska residents, seafood or wild game could be affected.

Smith on Tuesday had seemed to take offense to comments Obama

Holder spoke a day after 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jerry Smith questioned President Barack cheap jeffrey campbell shoes Obama's remarks this week about an "unelected" court possibly striking down the president's health care overhaul. Smith, during oral arguments in a separate challenge to the health law, asked the Justice Department for a three-page, single-spaced letter affirming the federal court's authority.

RECOMMENDED: How much do you know about health-care reform? Take our quiz!

When asked during a Wednesday news conference in Chicago what an appropriate response to Smith would be, Holder said, "I think what the president said a couple of days ago was appropriate. He indicated that we obviously respect the decisions that courts make."

"Under our system of government ... courts have the final say on the constitutionality of statutes," Holder said. "The courts are also fairly deferential when it comes to overturning statutes that the duly elected representatives of the people, Congress, pass."

The White House, meanwhile, struggled for a third day to explain Obama's original remark that a Supreme Court reversal of the case would be "unprecedented."

White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters in Washington that Obama does not regret using that word, and he insisted Obama was not trying to bully the justices by weighing in before the case is decided.

"It's the reverse of intimidation," Carney said during a lengthy defense of Obama's comments. "He's simply making an observation about precedent and the fact that he expects the fashion trends 2012 court to adhere to that precedent."

A reversal would not be unprecedented, even under the very narrow terms Obama and his spokesman later attached to his comments, but it would be very unusual.

Obama had sought to clarify his remarks under questioning at The Associated Press annual meeting on Tuesday. There, Obama said he was referring only to a specific class of constitutional law, and to the pattern of judicial deference to Congress exemplified by the upholding of New Deal legislation in the 1930s.

Carney on Wednesday said Obama's remarks were the object of criticism "only because a handful of people didn't seem to understand what he was referring to."

Carney also repeated Holder's assurance that the Justice Department would comply with the Texas judge's demand for a letter of explanation.

Smith on Tuesday had seemed to take offense to comments Obama made Monday that he didn't believe the Supreme Court would take the "unprecedented" step of overturning a law passed by a strong majority of Congress. He said he wanted reassurance that Holder and the Justice Department recognized judicial authority.

"The letter needs to be at least three pages, single spaced, no less and it needs to be specific. It needs to make specific reference to the president's statements," Smith said during a case brought in part by a spine and joint hospital in East Texas that is challenging the constitutionality of a portion of the health care law.

Smith's office in Houston said Wednesday the judge would not be commenting on the issue because the case before his court still is pending. Smith, a native Texan, was nominated to the appeals court by President Ronald Reagan and confirmed by the Senate in 1987.

In Chicago, Holder said he's confident the Supreme Court will find the Affordable Care Act constitutional "given the adequate, able representation" the law had during arguments before the justices. He said Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. "did a great job."

Speaking at the same Chicago press conference during a meeting on health care fraud prevention, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said her department is continuing to implement the health care law without contingency plans for a Supreme Court ruling against it.

If the court rules against the law, Sebelius said, "we'll make efforts to deal with that. But at this point, to black jordan high heels for women lay out the range of options and spend a lot of time and energy on what-ifs is not a very productive use of our time."

The new iPad is so good that the nonprofit Consumer Reports

The iPad “establishes a new benchmark of excellence,” Consumer Reports said Monday.

Apple declined to comment.

The report further affirms Apple’s lead in the booming tablet business as competitors strive to catch up. Google, one of Apple’s primary rivals, is widely expected by analysts to sell a tablet directly to consumers this year. Google declined to comment.

Apple, already the most valuable company in the world, saw its stock rise about 3.2 percent to $618.68 in regular trading on Monday. Bolstering the price was a Topeka Capital Markets report that predicted the stock would reach $1,001.

Consumer Reports said a few weeks ago that the new iPad generates more heat than previous versions, especially when it runs graphics-heavy games. But the magazine “didn’t find those temperatures to be cause for concern,” reviewer Donna Tapellini wrote.

The review also addressed another issue it raised with previous versions of the iPad. In March, Consumer Reports said that in at least one testing scenario, the iPad lost battery charge when it was operating while plugged into an outlet.

But tests on the new iPad showed that only happened when “the device was playing a demanding game with the screen fully bright,” Tapellini wrote.

In 2010, the magazine said it could not endorse the iPhone 4 because it lost signal while held in a certain way. But the antennae issue was fixed in the next version of the iPhone, dubbed the “4S,” and the handset returned to Consumer Reports’ recommended list.

In regards to the new iPad, the magazine said the camera was good and its 4G network (tested on Verizon’s network) was very fast. Battery life was better than rivals.

But it saved its highest praise for the iPad’s new display, which is “the best we’ve seen,” the magazine said. In fact, Consumer Reports said it is adjusting its standard for excellence in tablet screens based on the new device.

The only problem with the display?

“The new iPad’s display does, in at least some applications, serve to magnify imperfections in content designed for lower-screen resolution,” Tapellini wrote. The magazine expects that this will change over time as
more content is developed for high-definition tablet displays.

Jennifer Lopez 's fashion hair extensions and Brooklyn Decker cheap toms

Jennifer, 42, rocked the dress during "American Idol" in L.A. on March 22. Always one to heap on the jewelry, the "AI" judge added a black Hermes cuff, hoop earrings, black Gucci and cheap toms platform sandals, and a sleek ponytail.

Brooklyn, 24, sported the look at the Met Gala in NYC way back on May 2, 2011. The model-turned-actress let her gown do all the talking, and finished off her look with a silver clutch and nude strappy heels also by Kors.

I think we can all agree that Lopez is hot in almost anything! Here, the "On the Floor" singer's gown shows off her svelte physique (although the fabric does gather a little at the waist) and it really compliments her dark hair and complexion.Lodge co-owner Dean Bruemmer, who helped with the search Saturday, said he last saw his friend at breakfast. He said True gave no indication of a specific route, which made the search more difficult.

“There are a lot of trailheads animal print toms up the road,” said Bruemmer, whose lodge is about four miles from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument.

Though daytime temperatures in southwest New Mexico have been mild of late, temperatures dipped into the mid-20s on recent nights. True left for his run wearing shorts and a T-shirt and carrying a water bottle.

Fourteen search teams that were scouring the area Friday were supplemented with additional volunteer teams from across the state Saturday morning, state police spokesman Lt. Robert McDonald said. Teams were hiking and on horseback and ATVs. They also used dogs and employed a helicopter and plane in the search.

Bemis said crews likely would begin removing True’s body by horseback or litter team Saturday night. But he said the body probably wouldn’t make it out of the area until Sunday because of the terrain.

True, who had been friends with Bruemmer and his wife, Jane, for 10 years, would often visit their lodge while traveling between Mexico and his Boulder, Colo., home. As a result, Bruemmer said, True knew the trail system well—which made his disappearance all the more mystifying.

Michael Sandrock, a columnist who writes about running for The Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder, knew True for at least 20 years and had run with him. He called True a pioneer of the sport of ultrarunning, which involves running extreme distances, often on grueling terrain and many miles longer than a traditional 26-mile marathon.

True, he said, had a rebellious spirit but never sought to draw attention to himself even as he became legendary for his talents, which included “just going up and running for hours and hours at a time.”

“He’s just authentic and genuine. … Micah is a guy who follows his bliss,” Sandrock said.

He described True as a “legend” among ultrarunners.
Not so fast, though, J.Lo! The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model of 2010 was also stunning in the design that hugged her curves in all the right places. She even has an advantage over her competition, because she opted for minimal accessories and simple fashion trends pos hair and makeup to go with her attention-grabbing dress. For that reason, I declare Brooklyn the winner! Do you agree?

the 28-year-old has been on the move

Fashion, he says, has been a part of his life as long as he can remember, since boyhood in Paris. It started through a passion for drawing, which eventually became mostly fashion drawing.

“I don’t think there was a single moment when I got into fashion. When you live in Paris, and fashion is such a Celine handbags 2012, 60% off, Cheap price celine tote bag online point of pride for the French, it’s always around and you’re very much exposed to it from an early age. It was always something I knew about and really liked,” he says.

Since coming to the U.S., first to attend Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and then to New York to intern for Marc Jacobs, the 28-year-old has been on the move. He knows the Jacobs gig was a lucky break, especially since he’s not sure he was qualified for it. But he worked hard, he says, and was like a sponge soaking up everything he could and using that to grow his talent. From there, he worked for Proenza Schouler and then Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy.

While there, he realized he was forming his own voice and was ready to say something that could only come from his own womenswear label, which debuted in 2008. He says he felt confident on the creative side, but a little unsure in business. That’s where his parents, both investment bankers, came in, and he learned from them. (His mother is still active in the company and is his most trusted adviser.)

The $300,000 CFDA prize he received last year didn’t hurt, either. He spent it on production and a new office, but it’s the mentorship he received from different forces in the industry that he found most valuable, he says. Sure, he has competitors, but he finds that most people realize that it’s better for the fashion industry to have many success stories instead of a handful. “We do band together and support each other.”

He adds: “You are the designer, but you have to have strong relationships with the commercial side of the business — sales and press. You don’t design in a vacuum. You need to be aware of what’s happening in the company and sales. It makes you a better designer, even if it’s not what you thought you set out to do.”

So, each day is a balancing act between creating unique, beautiful things and hitting the zeitgeist so that women will want to buy them. Each new collection is a full journey.

“It starts with a story or a mood, but usually the place it starts is not the place it ends up. You have to start with your gut, an idea you are willing to commit to for the next six months, and the idea will take a life of its own and develop as you work on fabrics and start drawing,” he says. “I try to stay open to change, but I also try not to change my mind constantly.”

His newest collection was inspired by the European comic character Corto Maltese, of whom Altuzarra was a fan as a child. There is something very global and multi-ethnic about the sailor character, although he’s very cosmopolitan, too, Altuzarra explains, and that’s what he was trying to infuse into his clothes.

CFDA deputy director Lisa Smilor has been a fan of Altuzarra since the designer’s earliest days, when he was still showing in his apartment.

“I knew that I was in the room with someone special hearing the way Joseph talked about the clothes,” she says. “It was clearly evident that he was passionate about his craft but that he also understood the importance of establishing a profitable business. The questions he asked were very smart, and I knew that he had the winning combination: great talent and a good sense of the industry.”

Success will continue to come in steps, Altuzarra says, but a bellwether moment came last year when he saw fashion editors trace a blossoming trend in floral prints to his runway show.

The recognition makes him a little nervous, though.

“The fashion industry has a tendency to embrace someone and drop them. You don’t want to be the It boy, the flash in the pan, which is why I’m really concerned and try not to be too exposed. I don’t go to too many parties or do too much press.”

He’d much rather watch people on the Cheap Varsity Jackets, 50% Off at Varsity Letterman Jackets online street. That’s something that makes him a real New Yorker, he says, as does his TV habit and his constant checking of his cellphone. “What’s very New York? I’m obnoxiously looking at my phone when people are talking to me or I’m buying something. Also I’m eating on the go a lot. In Paris, what I did that was very French used to be smoking but that’s gone — and I’m really happy about that.”

Robert Bales is accused of sneaking off his base on March

The families were told that the new shop cheap money came from President Barack Obama. The unusually large payouts were the latest move by the White House to mend relations with the Afghan people after the killings threatened to shatter already tense relations.

Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales is accused of sneaking off his base on March 11, then creeping into houses in two nearby villages and opening fire on families as they slept.

The killings came as tensions between the U.S. and Afghanistan were strained following the burning of Qurans at a U.S. base in February. That act -- which U.S. officials have said was a mistake -- sparked riots and attacks that killed more than 30 people, including six American soldiers.

There have been no violent protests following the March 11 shootings in Kandahar province's Panjwai district, but demands for justice on Afghan terms have been getting louder since Bales was flown out of the country to a U.S. military prison.

Many Afghans in Kandahar have continued to argue that there must have been multiple gunmen and accused the U.S. government of using Bales as a scapegoat.

U.S. investigators say they believe the herve leger outlet gunman returned to his base after the first attack and later slipped away to kill again.

That would seem to support the U.S. government's assertion that the shooter acted alone, since the killings would have been perpetrated over a longer period of time than assumed when Bales was detained outside his base in Kandahar province's Panjwai district.

Bales has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder and other crimes and could face the death penalty if convicted.

The families of the dead received the money Saturday at the governor's office, said Kandahar provincial council member Agha Lalai. He and community elder Jan Agha confirmed the payout amounts.

Survivors previously had received smaller compensation payments from Afghan officials -- $2,000 for each death and $1,000 for each person wounded.

Two U.S. officials confirmed that compensation had been paid but declined to discuss exact amounts, saying only that the payments reflected the devastating nature of the incident. The officials spoke anonymously because of the sensitivity of the subject.

The provided compensation figures would mean that at least $866,000 was paid out in all. Afghan officials and villagers have counted 16 dead -- 12 in the village of Balandi and four in neighboring Alkozai -- and six wounded. The U.S. military has charged Bales with 17 murders without explaining the discrepancy.

The 38-year-old soldier, who is from Lake Tapps, Wash., is accused of using his 9mm pistol and M4 rifle prom dress 2012 to kill four men, four women, two boys and seven girls, then burning some of the bodies. The ages of the children were not disclosed in the charge sheet.

you can go crazy with color for herve lger

The clearer the fashions, the easier to find a bargain,” said Amanda Hallay, assistant clinical professor at fashion college LIM, based in Manhattan.

If you know the style and brand you want, price-comparison apps like eBay’s RedLaser can make finding the best deal easier.

And if you’re not wedded to any label, sites like shefinds.com offer guides to sales and online coupon codes, along with blogs and photos of what celebrities are wearing, says Dan Grandpre, editor-in-chief of deal aggregator Dealnews.com.

Make sure you follow their favorite stores’ Twitter feeds and Facebook pages to get special discounts.

Chasing trends can easily get expensive. Fight that by investing in styles that you will still find appealing even when they’re no longer trendy.

“You have to prioritize. If you are going to spend on shoes, you can cheap out on accessories,” said Jodi Furman, author of a blog called Livefabuless.com, which offers tips on smart spending.

Here are four trends for the spring 2012 fashion trends season and how to sport them without breaking the bank:

— Boat shoes: Boat shoes — the brown leather shoes with rubber soles that had their fashion heyday in the 1980s — have made a big comeback this spring. But they’ve gotten a major makeover.

Retailers are stocking a rainbow of versions in brightly colored hues like neon yellow and hot pink, funky print designs and different materials — at varying prices.

If you’re on a tight budget, Payless Shoe Source offers a version from Dexter for $24.99. If you want to splurge, Gucci has them for $530.

If you want lots to pick from, it’s hard to beat online shoe retailer Zappos, which lists more than 700 types of boat shoes for men, women, and children — 70 brands in 25 colors and 15 materials, from rubber to mesh.

Purists can turn to the creator — Sperry, which introduced the shoe in 1935. Its site sperrytopsider.com lists prices from about $60 to $300, and shoppers will find varied styles and colors. The $300 version is for the “authentic original,” which is handcrafted and made in Maine.

If you don’t mind something pre-worn, you can try second-hand stores or vintage shops.

And for the ultimate in savings, try looking in your attic or the back of your closet to see if you have kept those shoes from your college days; with just a little polish, the shoes could get a second life.

— Super skinny jeans: A wide variety of retailers are pushing super skinny pants as tight as leggings. At the lower end, H&M and Target have them for about $25 or less.

And good news if you’re carrying a few extra winter pounds: This season, the look is being paired with oversized tops that camouflage any bulges, rather than the skin-tight tops of seasons past.

“You don’t have to be skinny to enjoy the skinny jeans,” Hallay says.

— Brightly colored prints: paisley, tie-die and “super flower.”

With prints, remember that you don’t have to buy the whole outfit to be trendy — they can grab a scarf or a belt, or just a T-shirt, says Furman. A little color can go a long way.

And a scarf doesn’t just have to be a scarf. Retailers are also marketing them as headdresses and even as tops.

You can also mix and match without looking out of fashion, says David Wolfe, creative director at The Doneger Group.

“This season, you can go crazy with 2012 Sale bandage herve leger outlet store color,” he says.

— Cuff bracelets: These chunky, wide bracelets can be found in all shapes, sizes and materials, from plastic to silver.

If you want unusual styles, try fab.com, which focuses on daily flash sales of unique designs including accessories that can be as low as $25, Grandpre says.

You can also check out Forever 21 and Payless at the mall, where you can get cuff bracelets for under $10. But don’t limit yourself to low-price stores; the bracelets can be affordable even at high-end stores.

“This is a very democratic season,” says Hallay. “Everyone can find something that fits in their own budget.”

Family friend Steve Berling says toms Bales shoes

But his friends black toms glitter and neighbors remember Bales as a man of honor.

"The thing I buy toms shoes really remember," says neighbor Edith Bouvette, in Lakewood, Wash., "is him in his uniform with his pants tucked inside his boots. He was crisp, clean, military."

Family friend Steve Berling says Bales, "felt that he needed something bigger in his heart and his mind and in his soul, (and) that's why he went in the military."

Bales joined the Army shortly after Sept. 11, 2001. He was already 27 years old at the time.

Capt. Chris Alexander served with Bales and has known him for years.

"Bales is an extremely professional NCO," Alexander told CBS News. "No job too menial or too dangerous, and he would always get it done, and get it done very well."

Bales has secured the services girls toms of attorney John Henry Browne, who left Seattle Sunday and talked to reporters when he arrived in Kansas City to meet his client face-to-face for the first time.

"Everybody (who) has had three or four deployments to the Middle East is probably going to have some form of PTSD," Browne said, adding that his client, "had a concussive head injury that can be as serious, if not more serious than PTSD."

Bales' wife, Karilyn, who kept a running blog, wrote about the stresses repeated deployments were putting on her husband, their two children, and herself. There were financial stresses. A house Karilyn bought before their marriage reportedly was in foreclosure. Their family home was put on the market just this month for $50,000 less than they paid.

"You know," Browne said, "nobody goes and kills women and children because they had financial stresses."

But there were other signs of stress. Bales was charged with assaulting a girlfriend in 2002 but, after he underwent anger management, the charges were dropped. A police report describes a 2008 hit-and-run accident. Bales admits he rolled his car after colliding with a signpost, but says he fell asleep. Witnesses saw a man running away, bloody and smelling of alcohol. Charges were dismissed after Bales paid a fine.

Now, he's seeking support for his toms legal fees stemming from his alleged crimes in Afghanistan.

"Something terribly terrible has happened to him," neighbor Stuart Ness says. "And I think anybody in the shoes military who's been in combat certainly understands the kind of stress these guys have been going through."

He complained that he could not get business done

In the square, men flashed victory signs. Flags whipped in the wind: the black, white and red Syrian tricolor alongside the banners of Russia, China and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, some of Mr. Assad’s most stalwart supporters.

In the crowd, a 25-year-old man, the son of an army officer, explained why he had come: “To show to the world that President Assad is our leader forever.”

Carrying a portrait of Mr. Assad, he said, “The best solution is to give the army and security bodies a free hand to finish all these armed gangs and groups, who cover themselves with democracy and freedom slogans.”

But not everyone was buying the government’s narrative. One man who avoided the protest said the government was acting “like a teenager,” anxious to prove its popularity; another called the rally “fabricated.” And an official with Mr. Assad’s Ba’ath Party said that not everyone had come as willingly as the soldier’s son had.

The government, the official said, had canceled a day off — a national holiday called Teachers’ Day — and “forced all teachers and schools to go,” to prevent antigovernment protesters from gathering to mark the anniversary of the start of the uprising.

“We will not keep squares empty to let anti-Assad protesters fill them,” he said.

On March 15, 2011, demonstrations in the southern city of Dara’a turned sporadic protests into a nationwide uprising.

The government responded with violence. Some activists and defecting soldiers took up arms, which led to more crackdowns, and Syria’s became the most violent of the Arab revolts, with more than 7,500 people killed, the United Nations estimates. The government blames the killings on “terrorists” spurred on by Western countries that it says are angry at Syria’s defiance.

Those competing narratives dueled across Syria on Thursday. Hundreds tried to hold a protest just a few miles from the square, in the Damascus suburbs. Others marched in Aleppo, even as security forces fired on them, according to videos from activists. Troops hit pockets of rebellion in Homs, Idlib and Dara’a, activists said, even as pro-Assad rallies purported to celebrate the restoration of order.

Claims and counterclaims of battles, casualties and competing protests are difficult to corroborate because of government restrictions on journalists.

Syrian television borrowed from the youthful, grass-roots uprising in creating a Facebook page, “Likes for Syria,” and elaborate video advertisements in which young men and women, priests and imams declare over soaring music, “I’m going to the Global March for Syria.”

Not all of the support for Mr. Assad is manufactured. Some Syrians, like the soldier’s son at the rally, worry that his departure could usher in sectarian revenge against members of his minority Alawite sect. Many Christians fear rule by the Sunni Muslim majority. Others simply fear instability. The Assad government has stoked those fears by portraying itself as a protector of minorities and a bulwark of order.

A Syrian soldier reached by telephone, who gave his name as Samer, said no one had forced his family to attend the rally. “We danced the dabke,” a traditional dance, he said.

To him, the rally celebrated victory over traitors instigated by foreigners. “We won over the conspiracy,” he said.

But in Harasta, a northern suburb of Damascus, a 40-year-old employee of a state construction company said he had slipped away rather than attend.

He said his bosses had told workers to participate, threatening to punish those who did not. “I couldn’t participate in a pro-Assad rally while our brothers are killed and slaughtered in Homs,” he said.

He was not persuaded by official claims that the fighting was over; he had heard explosions and gunfire the night before. And, he said, while the government might bus in families from military dormitories to protests in the provinces, “every Syrian knows that no citizen in Dara’a will participate in a pro-Assad rally in Dara’a.”

A 50-year-old businessman called the rally “a waste of time.”

“It is ridiculous to see a government force its workers to rally,” he said. “We need wise people to manage the crisis, not old-fashioned officials of the 1960s who solve problems by Soviet-style rallies.”

because the roads were blocked.

“The government thinks like a teenager — it organizes big rallies to show its popularity,” he said. “Popularity is measured by fair and democratic elections, not premade rallies.

“If President Assad has wide popularity,” he went on, “he should call for early presidential elections, not ask his soldiers, security men and their families to gather in public squares.”

How will slaughter affect the NATO military mission?

The western district has been known to be a hotbed of Taliban activity, even considered the birthplace of the Taliban. But the woman said she swears she hadn't seen Taliban fighters in five months.

She said she was one of many who had moved back to the village because people on the nearby military base had said it was safe to return home, and that nobody would bother them.

"This base told us to come back to our villages ... we will not bother you. This is your land, and this is your own village," she said. "But these dogs came and grabbed us."

President Barack black Obama girls toms and other top U.S. officials have expressed their sorrow and condolences to the families. But that had little meaning in the village, where a local minister said one family lost 11 members Sunday.

"Look at these bodies. They all belong to one family," one of the villagers said through tears.

Old and young men alike wept openly, while investigators sifted through the grisly scene picking up shell casings and picking through at least one home where the floors and walls were stained with blood.

Sorrow was soon replaced by anger at American forces. Some of the villagers said there was more than one soldier on the ground when the killings occurred.

But the International Security Assistance Force, the U.S.-led NATO mission in Afghanistan, said that was not the case -- that the killings appear to be the result of a single soldier, who walked away from his outpost and acted alone.

There was new information Monday about the soldier accused of the killings. A Department of Defense official told CNN the man, a staff sergeant, was a qualified infantry sniper, trained to hit to kill at about 800 meters. He had spent three tours of duty in Iraq, where he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a 2010 vehicle accident.

After treatment, he was cleared to return to duty and was serving his first tour in Afghanistan.

The massacre has further inflamed tensions between U.S. and Afghan leaders and the people of Afghanistan. Afghan lawmakers have asked for a public trial to be held on Afghan soil, but Pentagon spokesman George Little said the case would be handled by the American military.

"The soldier was never in the custody of Afghan forces and will not face punishment under the Afghan justice system," Little said. "The U.S. military has strong means to address wrongdoing. There is an agreement in place with the government of Afghanistan, so that the investigation -- and when appropriate, prosecution -- will be done through U.S. military channels."

The costliest box office flops of all time

Wall Street media analysts said the toms for girls studio could lose $100 million to $165 million on its big-budget epic, which opened Friday in theaters worldwide.

"We normally would not be changing estimates prior to a movie opening," Alan Gould, senior media and entertainment analyst at Evercore Partners, wrote in an investor note published Friday. "But given the tracking reports, reviews and high profile of this picture, we feel there is little risk in adjusting our estimate early."

Gould more than doubled his earlier estimates of the studio's loss on the film, to $165 million. An entertainment analyst at Cowen & Co. also projected a write-down of $100 million or more, citing the apparent lack of moviegoer interest in seeing the film about a Civil War hero who is magically transported to Mars.

The debut of "John Carter," a film based on a century-old series by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs, looked Friday as if it would be eclipsed by the second weekend numbers for the 3-D animated movie "Dr. Seuss' the Lorax." The family film, from Disney rival Universal Studios, opened at $70.2 million last weekend and could bring in an additional $40 million this weekend.

Based on East Coast screenings and pre-release surveys of would-be moviegoers, "John Carter" could toms girls bring in $26 to $28 million worth of ticket sales over the weekend, according to a competing distributor. That figure, while precipitously low for a movie that cost $250 million, marks an improvement over earlier projections.

Overseas, the fantasy film garnered $13 million in box-office receipts, according to one person with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly. In Russia, "John Carter" had the highest opening-day in movie history, with $6.5 million in ticket sales, the person said. The movie also had solid starts in Asia.

The stakes are high for a big-budget event film like "John Carter" because Disney has dramatically curtailed the number of movies it produces each year. The studio has limited its film investments to two categories: developing movies around its established Marvel, Pixar and Disney brands, and financing wide-appeal event movies with the potential to drive sequels, merchandise sales, television series or theme-park attractions.

Cowen & Co. analyst Doug Creutz raised questions about the structure of the Disney studio.

PHOTOS: The costliest box office flops of all time

"Aside from the output of Pixar and Marvel … the company appears to have put itself in a fairly tight box with only a couple of major films per year, that are also expected to be 'Disney-branded' 'franchise' films," Creutz wrote Friday. "We think this puts an enormous amount of pressure on studio management, which has a very limited number of 'shots on goal' each year."

The SNL Kagan Box Office report archly suggested that "it might be best if Walt Disney Co. avoided movies about Mars altogether."

About a year ago, Disney released the box-office dud "Mars Needs Moms." That 3-D animated movie, which cost a reported $150 million, grossed just $21.4 million at the domestic box office.

Kagan noted that "John Carter" could still outperform predictions and do well overseas, where audiences respond to big-budget 3-D epics. And the film's accomplished director, Pixar Animation Studios veteran Andrew Stanton, has proved naysayers wrong before.

"What makes the film risky is not so much its century-old source material or its relatively unknown cast or even the fact that it represents the first live-action film from director Andrew Stanton, who previously helmed 'Finding Nemo' and 'Wall-E,' " wrote Kagan analysts Sarah Barry James and Wade Holden. "Rather, the danger comes from the movie's gargantuan spring classic blue toms budget."

herve leger 2012 collection online

In the first national vote since a disputed presidential election in 2012 miranda kerr red bandage dress, scenes of crowded polling places and voters with ink-stained fingers dominated state television and online news sites, alongside none-too-subtle editorials declaring that the vote defied Western perceptions of domestic discontent in Iran. Iran’s opposition movement — whose leaders have been jailed or placed under house arrest — had called for a boycott of the vote.

Iran’s supreme leader and other top officials had called in recent days for high voter turnout as a way to show defiance toward the West at time of extraordinary tension. Iran’s economy is staggering under the latest round of sanctions, and there is rising speculation that Israel will bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The elections, which had more than 3,400 candidates competing for the 290-seat Legislature, are widely expected to increase the control of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over Iran’s complex political landscape. They are not likely to have any bearing over issues most relevant to the West, like the efforts to reach a diplomatic compromise on Iran’s nuclear program.

Interior Ministry officials reported an increase of 8 to 9 percent over the turnout in the last parliamentary elections, in 2008, according to the official Mehr news service. The official news agency IRNA declared the elections another “recurrence of epic incidents in the history of the Islamic republic of Iran that blinded the enemies.” Results are expected in two or three days.

The reported turnout seemed at odds with the short lines and relatively empty voting booths described by a number of Iranians in the capital and a few other major cities over the course of the herve leger 2012 collection day. “I went to two polling places at around 2 p.m., one a mosque and one a school, and there was hardly anyone there,” a 41-year-old woman in Tehran said in comments that were echoed by others. Many analysts and government critics have been asserting that the government, which has long held up voter turnout as a sign of its democratic legitimacy, was likely to declare high numbers no matter what.

But others cautioned that the official numbers could very well be accurate, especially in light of a recent campaign by Iranian high officials and clerics that declared voting a national and religious duty at a time of stress and danger. The appeals to patriotism and piety are especially effective in Iran’s hinterland, away from the more worldly precincts of northern Tehran. “We are a minuscule minority up here,” said Mohammad Ali Shabani, a political analyst in Tehran. “They portrayed a high turnout as a way to show unity and resistance in the face of sanctions.”

Results of the vote have been dismissed as meaningless by many of the opposition supporters who filled the streets during the antigovernment protests set off by the disputed presidential election of 2009. That was followed by a harsh crackdown, lasting months, that effectively destroyed the reformist movement and any allied opposition.

Lying below the surface of this year’s election is a fierce struggle between partisans and rivals of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose second and final term ends next year. He hopes to maintain influence by electing lawmakers who are loyal to him.

On Sunday night, she has partnered with 25 media organizations

On Sunday night, WikiLeaks announced the initial release of what it’s calling the Global Intelligence Files, a collection of 5.5 million emails from the private intelligence herve leger sale firm Stratfor. The group claims those emails, to be released over the coming weeks, show Stratfor’s involvement in operations like monitoring activists seeking redress for the Bhopal chemical disaster on behalf of Dow Chemical, payments to the former head of the controversial Pakistani secret service, and even the use of the company’s information for insider trading.

WikiLeaks has partnered with 25 media organizations to sift, analyze and publish those emails: It lists Rolling Stone, the McClatchy News Agency, the Italian newspaper L’Espresso and the Indian paper The Hindu among them.

But more unusual is its other apparent partnership: Several mouthpieces for Anonymous say the hacker group gave WikiLeaks the leaked emails after a widely-publicized breach of the company’s network in December of last year. The Anonymous twitter feeds Anonops and AnonymousIRC both claimed credit for the leak, and the Anonymous “news service” YourAnonnews spelled it out even more clearly: “To clarify to all journalists – YES, #Anonymous gave the STRATFOR emails obtained in the 2011 LulzXmas hack to WikiLeaks.”

WikiLeaks, per its usual practice, won’t comment on its source. But Wired.com reports that a coded tweet from WikiLeaks last December signaled the successful handoff of the files, which Anonops has identified as this one.

Publishing documents taken by Anonymous’ digital intruders would represent a new level of collaboration between the two groups. When Anonymous launched attacks against herve leger bathing suit Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, Amazon and others in retaliation against those companies’ financial blockade against WikiLeaks last year, WikiLeaks kept a careful remove. “We neither condemn nor applaud these attacks,” WikiLeaks’ Icelandic spokesperson Kristinn Hrafnsson wrote at the time. “We believe they are a reflection of public opinion on the actions of the targets.”

When the Anonymous sub-group LulzSec hacked the security firm HBGary a few months later, exposing a proposed plan to sabotage WikiLeaks and intimidate its donors, WikiLeaks posted a PowerPoint presentation from the hacked documents on its site, but left it to Anonymous to publish the rest of the cache on its own site, AnonLeaks.

The Global Intelligence Files represent a far cozier relationship between the two groups, with WikiLeaks actively distributing and promoting the fruits of Anonymous’ work. It’s certainly not the first time that WikiLeaks has published documents that were explicitly hacked rather than leaked by an insider–its past publications have included the stolen “Climategate” emails from East Anglia University and the hacked emails of Sarah Palin. But since hitting the spotlight in 2010, WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange has played down the group’s associations with hacker and focused more on its role as a media organization and a conduit for whistleblowers.

A public association with a hacker group like Anonymous may hurt WikiLeaks’ moral credibility just when the group needs it most. The group is struggling to raise cash and faces an ongoing grand jury investigation that could result in charges against members of the group. Its alleged source, Army private Bradley Manning, faces a trial for numerous charges including aiding the enemy, and prosecutors have hinted in his pre-trial hearing that Assange may have coached him on extracting classified documents from military networks.

On the other hand, a partnership with Anonymous could revive WikiLeaks’ relevance to the public. Since September of 2010, the group hasn’t had a functioning dropbox for leakers, and doesn’t seem to have one in the works any time soon.

The laborers there showed me how their bandage dress

"Death to America," chanted the angry protesters and automatic weapons fire could be heard, but it was herve leger unclear if Afghan security forces or camp guards were firing.

The city's police chief Mohammad Ayub Salangi arrived at the scene with hundreds of reinforcements in an effort to bring the crowd under control.

A doctor at Kabul's Wazir Akbar Khan hospital said at least 10 protesters had been brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The doctor, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media, said one of the wounded was in critical condition.

Several miles away, hundreds were also gathered outside Camp Phoenix, a U.S. military base, and were hurling rocks at the installation, said Kabul provincial police spokesman Ashmatullah Stanekzai. There were reports that shots were also heard near Camp Phoenix.

Stanekzai said another smaller and peaceful demonstration with just over 100 people was taking place in western Kabul near the capital's university.

Police in eastern Jalalabad city said that thousands were gathering in parts of that city to demonstrate against the incident.

The U.S. military apologized Tuesday for the burning of books, including Korans, that had been pulled from the shelves of a detention center library adjoining Bagram air base because they herve leger sale contained extremist messages or inscriptions.

The White House later echoed military officials and said the burning was an accident.

"We apologize to the Afghan people and disapprove of such conduct in the strongest possible terms," they said in a statement quoted by the embassy on Twitter. ""This does not reflect the great respect our military has for the religious practices of the Afghan people."

U.S. Gen. John Allen, the top commander in Afghanistan, ordered an investigation into the incident, which he was "not intentional in any way."

"These kinds of incidents, when they do occur, will be corrected in the fastest and most appropriate manner possible," Allen said in a statement quoted by the embassy on Twitter. "We've been dying alongside the Afghans for a long time because we believe in them, and we want to give them a bright future."

Allen thanked the local Afghans "who helped us buy herve leger identify the error, and who worked with us to immediately take corrective action."

"We are thoroughly investigating the incident and are taking steps to ensure this does not ever happen again," he said in a statement.

The incident stoked anti-foreign sentiment that already is on the rise after nearly a decade of war in Afghanistan and fueled the arguments of Afghans who believe foreign troops are not respectful of their culture or Islamic religion.

Ahmad Zaki Zahed, chief of the provincial council, said U.S. military officials took him to a burn pit on the base where 60 to 70 books, including Korans, were recovered. The books were used by detainees once incarcerated at the base, he said.

"Some were all burned. Some were half-burned," Zahed said, adding that he did not know exactly how many Korans, the Muslim holy book, had been burned.

Zahed said five Afghans working at the pit told him that the religious books were in the garbage that bandage dress two soldiers with the U.S.-led coalition transported to the pit in a truck late Monday night. When they realized the books were in the trash, the laborers worked to recover them, he said.

"The laborers there showed me how their fingers were burned when they took the books out of the fire," he said.

Afghan Army Gen. Abdul Jalil Rahimi, the commander of a military coordination office in the province, said he Kim Kardashian Dress and other officials met with protesters, tribal elders and clerics to try to calm their emotional response. "The protesters were very angry and didn't want to end their protest," he said.

One protester, Mohammad Hakim, said if U.S. forces can't bring peace to Afghanistan, they should go home.

"They should leave Afghanistan rather than disrespecting our religion, our faith," Hakim said. "They have to leave and if next time they disrespect our religion, we will defend our holy Koran, religion and faith until the last drop of blood has left in our body."

Later, however, the protesters ended the rally and said they would send 20 representatives from the group to Kabul to talk with Afghan parliamentarians and demanded a meeting with President Hamid Karzai, Rahimi said.

The governor's office in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan called the incident a "shameful move by some stupid individuals."
